INTRO TO VIDEO WEEK 9HOME WEEK 9 |
THE CLASS WILL BE DIVIDED IN GROUPS. ALL STUDENTS WILL SHOOT IN GROUPS. EACH GROUP WILL SHOOT TWO SHORT MOVIES. ONE SHORT MOVIE IN WEEK 9 AND ANOTHER SHORT MOVIE IN WEEK 10. APPROXIMATE 5 MINUTES FOOTAGE PER GROUP. THE FOOTAGES WILL BE EDIT IN VIDEO EDITING NEXT QUARTER. THESE ARE THE CHECK POINTS WHEN I WILL REVIEW YOUR SHORT MOVIES EACH CHECK POINT VALUES 10%. 1. STORY STRUCTURE. All drama (comedy) has a beginning middle and an end. Big Event, and Crisis 2. CAMERA MOVEMENTS. USE OF TRIPOD, NO HAND HELD, NO ZOOMING. Make your movements smooth, slow, and deliberate 3. WHITE BALANCE 4. ZEBRA READING 5. FRAME COMPOSITION. You should be able to pause it anywhere and see a good frame composition a. Typical Problems: i. Chopping off the characters head ii. Not leaving enough space (room) in between subject and frame (consider where the character is looking) b. In general there are two types of compositions: (RULE OF THIRD) i. Symmetrical Compositions ii. Asymmetrical, or DYNAMIC COMPOSITIONS 6. CONTINUITY. USE OF COVER SHOTS a. To meet the minimum requirements of this assignment you must have at least 8 consecutive cover shots i. CUT-IN's and CUT-AWAY's 7. FOCAL LENGTH a. USE OF ESTABLISHING SHOTS AND CLOSE UPS b. In general use an establishing shot, a medium shot and Close-up to tell a story 8. RACK FOCUSING 9. STRIPE TAPES. You will need to shoot in your own tapes to be given to the instructor. I will return them at the beginning of next quarter 10. ROOM AT THE BEGINNING AND END. YOU HAVE TO LEAVE ROOM AT THE BEGINNING AND THE END OF EACH SHOT, BECAUSE THE COMPUTERS NEED THIS TIME TO REBOOT THE TIME CODE PROPERLY
